And no, I can't prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt, but it is recorded in certain places.

If you would please recall the famous Three Wisemen of Christian lore that came to meet the Baby jesus at his birth bringing gifts of frankinscents and myrhh (hopefully I spelled that right) after following the "star" in the night sky. These men were astronomers and were actually following the planet Venus in the night sky. They understood how the planet Venus affects matters on Earth just as the Maya did, and were able to predict, or divine, matters by understanding Venus.

I too am Christian and beleive in Jesus Christ. Born & raised Roman Catholic. I have however become more an agnostic as the years go buy and the Catholic church as I knew it changed and all the rules we were taught were changed by the Eccuminical council and I realized that all the "Rules" of the church were man made and that the 10 commandments were Gods law and all the rest, no matter what religion, was someones interpitation of various versions of the "Bible" or writings that preceeded the Bible. The belief in God or Gods predates all Christian religions( Remember, Christianity is only a little over 2,000 years old) and most other religions, by thousands of years. the basis of all mordern religion has it's roots from the earlier beliefs of the "pagans" and have just taken the parts they want and thrown the rest away. I do beleive there is a "supreme" being, weather that is a being from another planet, a spritual presence in our minds and souls or a universal energy that we are all a part of. Perhaps it was our Savior's Father who gave the knowledge to the Mayans about when he would end it all and give us one last chance, of many chances, to save our world. (The story of Noah is perhaps the best known of these.) Now back the the Mayan calendar!

I would like to say for the record that I am also a Christian and believe in Jesus Christ, and I feel that there is very little conflict between Mayan beliefs and Christianity, although the Catholic church did destroy most of the records of this knowledge that the Maya had about calendrics by burning it all. I feel that this was wrong for the Catholic Church to do. These what are called "pagan" beliefs by the Catholic Church actually do have validity in this world, and Mayan prophecy actually is very similar to Christian prophecy, if not exactly the same.

Not really sure about this, but thought it merits more thought and information. Only our Savior knows when the end really is.

In Mayan mythology, these phases of Venus were closely linked with the story of the life of their Deity, Quetzalcoatl, and Venus was also used to predict or divine human behavior and matters on Earth.

Inferior Conjunction= 8days
Morning Star= 236 days
Superior Conjunction= 90 days
Evening Star= 250 days
Dylan Brown Comment by Dylan Brown on September 7, 2009 at 6:32am
Following the superior conjunction, Venus spends 250 days as an "evening star," until it finally goes into the inferior conjunction again.
Dylan Brown Comment by Dylan Brown on September 7, 2009 at 6:26am
The "Superior Conjunction" occurs when Venus is farthest from Earth, with the Sun positioned between Venus and Earth. At the Superior Conjunction, Venus and the Sun advance in the Zodiac at nearly the same speed. At this conjunction, it takes weeks for Venus to pass the Sun and gain some angular distance ahead of it.
Dylan Brown Comment by Dylan Brown on September 7, 2009 at 6:23am
Venus and the Sun thus pass eachother, moving in opposite directions, a movement that increases their angular separation at a rate of about 2 degrees per day.
